Bernie Blinded: Corporate Media's Sudden Love Affair With Bernie Sanders a Case Study in Progressive Sabotage
“It’s the Bernie and Joe show," Maureen Dowd of the New York Times wrote. In reality, the Democratic establishment and corporate media have conned Sanders—and are trying to fool you next
The corporate media’s about-face on Bernie Sanders—a rapid evolution from panning him as a radical, angry, sexist, sore loser to an ascending power broker and player in Biden world—is a marvel for both journalists who covered Sanders’ campaign and supporters who surfed the waves of revolution in 2016 through 2020.
The latest sudden swooning over Sanders was a weekend gem from the New York Times’ Maureen Dowd, who dished on her recent breaking of bread with Sanders at a Vermont diner.
Titled “The Ascension of Bernie Sanders,” Dowd paints a portrait of a once lonely, outsider bear now firmly entrenched in the establishment’s animal kingdom.
Sanders, long a wilderness prophet in Washington, a man who wrote a memoir bragging about being an outsider, admits that it is strange to be a key member of The Establishment. As the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, the democratic socialist is now pulling the levers in the control room.
In a more nauseating manufacturing of nonsense, my new spin off the great Noam Chomsky’s infamous media brainwashing manual, Dowd labeled Sanders and Biden as two political peas in a pod, “dismissed for years” by the Democratic Party but now
"teaming up to transform the country.”
Or as she likened it: “It’s the Bernie and Joe show.”
If you think this scribe of alternate reality is isolated, think again. From CNN’s recent ode to "Bernie the Biden influencer”; the Washington Post’s explainer of the muting of Bernie’s mouth; to the LA Times’ depiction of Bernie the “power breaker,” a mainstream media full of Bernie bashers have collective morphed into the new Sandernistas.
Of course, a lot of these stories are fed to the corporate media by a trio of the Biden administration, Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
This sudden Bernie love-fest yields two blinking red lights. Let’s break down both:
