Jordan's "We the Poisoned" Featured in Axios
"Investigative journalist Jordan Chariton includes stunning details of a last-minute attempt by the city's water plant manager to avert what turned into a lead poisoning disaster,"Noah Bressner writes
Hey folks, it’s Jordan.
I’m writing to you from Flint, where I was yesterday for a really long, emotional, bittersweet day. I was live for nearly three hours covering residents marching—on the 10-year-anniversary of the ONGOING water crisis—as well as emotional, infuriating…and uplifting speeches (we’ll be cutting up the livestream into smaller videos too).
This morning, I was excited to see that Axios wrote up a preview of my upcoming book on the Flint water cover up, titled “We the Poisoned: Exposing the Flint Water Cover Up and the Poisoning of 100,000 Americans” (pre-order available now, released in stores August 6th). The book is based on nearly a decade of my investigating and reporting on Flint; it will expose stunning new details of what, based on my reporting, I believe is the biggest government cover up of the 21st century.
From Axios (please share the story!)
The big picture: Investigative journalist Jordan Chariton includes stunning details of a last-minute attempt by the city's water plant manager to avert what turned into a lead poisoning disaster.
The Michigan city switched the source of its water supply to save money on April 25, 2014 — unleashing one of America's largest public health crises.
What they're saying: "In a state that could decide who wins the White House — and a majority Black city Democrats depend on for turnout — Flint is one to watch in November," the book announcement says.
Beyond the book, I’m excited to announce we’ll be premiering our documentary, “Flint Fatigue,” on Sunday. The full-length documentary, which marks the decade anniversary of the ONGOING water crisis, will serve as a wake-up call for the world—Flint is STILL a crisis, cancer is SURGING here, teenagers are committing suicide at alarming rates, residents are struggling and have been provided ZERO criminal justice and deprived of free healthcare to address their illnesses wrought by the toxic water served to them.
We premiered the documentary last night in front of a few residents; not that this is what I was aiming for, but almost every single one of them watching in the audience cried. “Thank you for not giving up on us,” one resident told me after the film.
The documentary will premiere on Breaking Points YouTube channel on Sunday AND on our “Flint Fatigue” website. Paying Status Coup members will be able to watch the FULL INTERVIEWS I did in Flint for the documentary as well as watch behind-the-scenes footing shot during the making of the documentary (including me accidentally hitting some folks in the face on Wall Street!)
All I can tell you….all of this reporting, all of this traveling to Flint and East Palestine and all the other reporting we do, is extremely expensive. If you value this reporting—the kind that, frankly, only we are doing, PLEASE SUPPORT STATUS COUP as little as 16 cents a day ($5 a month).
Also, if you can PLEASE DONATE to help fund this important reporting.
As always, thank you for your support.
