Status Coup HEADED BACK to East Palestine 1 Year After Norfolk Southern Derailment and Chemical Detonation
Louis DeAngelis will make his 5th reporting trip to the struggling city amidst ONGOING DISASTER. Residents are growing sicker physically & mentally—long after the corporate media abandoned the story.
Hey everyone- Louis here. It's been a while!
I’m about to head back to East Palestine for my fifth reporting trip there in the last year. In total, that will add up to almost a month of on-the-ground coverage in EP for me with Status Coup. For this trip, I’ll be updating you on this ongoing disaster as the people of East Palestine mark the one-year-anniversary since the Norfolk South derailment/detonation this weekend.
Unsurprisingly, the mainstream media has largely abandoned this story and the people of East Palestine. Meanwhile, the few outlets still covering it are solely focused on how much toxic soil and water has been removed—or what a "success" Norfolk Southern’s cleanup operation has been. But I am still focused on what actually matters: hundreds, if not thousands, of folks in East Palestine, and the surrounding areas, are still sufferring. Many are sick and growing sicker. And they have absolutely been abandoned by their government at all levels.
Continuing to go back to cover these important stories on-the-ground reporting costs a lot of money. As always, I really appreciate your financial support to help send Jon Farina and I to stay on this important story. If you’re not yet a Status Coup member, please support us for as low as $5-10 bucks a month. You can also donate to help fund this trip.
Many are STILL dealing with health issues and, sadly, the worst may be yet to come. Many are screwed financially and stuck with homes that they want to leave. Everyone who was reimbursed for hotel stays, and other expenses incurred because of the derailment, are now PAYING TAXES on that money. The list goes on and on…
Many politicians have come and gone—but nothing has really been done. An entire town had train cars filled with toxic, cancer-causing chemicals intentionally—and as shown below unnecessarily—detonated. This caused a deathly-looking cloud to spread miles and miles away over the area. Just three days later, everyone was told it was fine to return home. If my reporting over the last 12 months has shown you anything, it is that it clearly was NOT fine, and still might not be.
Over the several days, I'll be speaking with faces new and old in East Palestine. Folks who we have checked in with over each of my trips in the field (and many phone calls and texts between). We’ll talk to new folks who are still dealing with health issues and anyone else we may encounter along the way. It is important to hear directly from the folks affected to see what is being done to help them, and more importantly, what isn't.
Please share the stories and videos we post with your friends, your family and others to help get these important messages out there. In many cases, if we're not there, no one is there.
Thanks for the support, and stay tuned for our coverage beginning Wednesday evening.
Thanks for your support,
Louis
