Status Coup STILL ON-THE-GROUND for UAW Strike on Day 11
But without your help, we're closing up shop soon...
Hey, folks it’s Jordan.
We take great pride in being the ONLY corporate or independent outlet that has been out ON-THE-GROUND for the entire 11-day strike. We have reported from nearly 10 picket lines in Michigan and Ohio and interviewed nearly 100 workers.
WATCH OUR LATEST INTERVIEW where striking GM workers reveal horrifying lack of medical care for injured workers:
Tina was also LIVE again yesterday speaking with striking workers. You will NOT see these types of interviews in any corporate news outlet.
At the moment we have Tina staying until Wednesday. I would like to go back to continue our coverage after that but the reality is—we’ve already spent nearly $6,000 over the last 11 days between paying for flights, hotels, rent-a-car (and 3 extensions), food, reporting costs for Tina, and video costs for Jon. As a small, independent outlet, we unfortunately don’t have unlimited funding to stay on the road even for the most important stories. To be able to stay out covering this strike—which I believe will continue for the foreseeable future—we need to be adding at least 10-20 new paying members daily. You can sign up as a Status Coup member for as low as $5-10 bucks a month.
I am a big believer in people-powered independent media. I know many don’t have an addition $5-10 bucks a month. But for those that do, straight up: we either allow CNN and other corporate outlets to set the narrative about this strike—insinuating these striking workers are hurting consumers and the economy and are asking for too much—or we fund the ONLY INDEPENDENT outlet ON-THE-GROUND lifting the voices of exploited workers.
It’s that simple.
$5 dollars a month=16 cents a day. $10 a month=33 cents a day. The choice is yours.
You can also DONATE to help fund this trip.
I’d love to head back to cover the strike when Tina leaves. I hope you can help us get there!
